Prom dress, Formal dress, Wedding dress or Bride-maid dress perfect ing

A good tailor can alter your dress to make it look as though it was made just for you, while leaving its appearance untouched.

This is the way our company Elegant Tailoring works.

We love to see how beautiful you look in your dress when the work is finished.

Keep in mind…

  • Taking in a dress is easier and less expensive than letting it out.
    • Thus, when you choose your dress, try to get one that is your exact size or little bigger. If you want to lose some weight before the event, buy the gown that fits today. This way, if you need to have it taken in, it will not be a problem. Make sure to call your tailor to find out how long it will take to make the alteration and come at proper time before the event.
    • Dress letting out can only be done using the fabric that is available in the seam allowances. Hence, if you expect to let out a smaller size dress, note these seam allowances or show the dress to your tailor first.
  • The difficulty and price of hemming your formal dress depends on its width, the number of layers it has, and on the kind of fabric it is made of.
  • When a dress is taken in, it become shorter, so if you buy a bigger size, the dress should also be a little long.
  • If you wear high heels, you might want to leave a little extra length on your dress for them.
  • When you come for fitting, take your shoes and bra with you.

Dressmaking

If it is a problem to find the perfect dress for your special occasion, you can order it to be custom made. In this case, Elegant Tailoring can offer many fashion magazines for you to chose the style, some of our prior works on display, and we accept any of your own ideas. Our prices for dressmaking are from $200, depending on the design and the fabric. This is not much different from what a formal dress usually costs, and no further alterations will be necessary!
